This article talks about how a woman with three children, no matter how poor she is, refuses to abandon her children. Even though one of her kids is in the hospital, she refuses to abandon her child.
This article affected me in two ways. First off, I'm Romanian. I was born there, came to Canada when I was three-and-a-half, so this is my home country we're talking about. Not to mention the fact that this particular woman and her chilren live in my hometown. The place I was born. Second of all, I was reading through the Convention of the Rights of a Child and I stumbled upon something that impounded me profoundly. It said in Article 18, paragraph 1 :
1. States Parties shall use their best efforts to ensure recognition of the principle that both parents have common responsibilities for the upbringing and development of the child. Parents or, as the case may be, legal guardians, have the primary responsibility for the upbringing and development of the child. The best interests of the child will be their basic concern.
That statement in the convention impacted me the most. That the best interests of the child will be their basic concern. The woman in this article obviously sees that. She does whatever she can to help her children, something that many parents don't. "Each day I wake up, cook for the children and clean the house,” says Ms. Ibrahim. “Then I go to the hospital to see my baby. They tell me to throw my children to the bin. I live only for my children. I cannot do that.” That is what the lady that the article is about says about children. They are her life and she'd do anything for them. I don't understand people who just completely throw away children as if they are nothing. We deserve the best care that a parent can give us, no matter what the circumstances.
